Malaysia’s first Creative Arts Institute launched to promote fashion, film and beauty technology

KUALA LUMPUR, 29 Nov 2017, (Bernama) — Snips College of Creative Arts (SCCA) unveiled its all-new comprehensive creative arts college on 28 November at its grand launch event held at SCCA Sungei Wang Plaza. This is in line with the government’s initiatives to spur the growth of the arts and cultural development in Malaysia.

According to a report by My Performing Arts Agency, the Klang Valley creative industries contributed RM8.99 billion to the country last year; making up 2 percent to the Klang Valley economy. The creative industries in developed countries currently contribute 3 to 6.9 percent to their nation’s economy – this is the new benchmark to reach in order to achieve the government’s aspirations.

Since its establishment in 1998, SCCA has ventured further into other creative arts’ fields; despite starting off as an exclusive hairdressing and makeup institute. The new additions include Fashion Design, Retail Business Management as well as New Media & Communication (major in Filming & Performing Arts) courses. Through these courses, the college places a heavy focus on imaging, which includes prosthetic makeup and fashion wardrobe for filming.

SCCA has exclusively partnered with the established fashion school from Italy, Instituto DiModa Burgo (IMB), and the world’s third best Filming Academy, Beijing Film Academy (BFA). These will be building a direct link for Malaysian talents to expand into the international arena.

Through its collaboration with IMB, the College hopes to elevate Malaysian talents into the elite Milan Fashion World. As for its tie-up with BFA, SCCA will be able to provide a solid pathway for talents in Malaysia to access the Asian market through the flourishing market of China.

Meanwhile, SCCA’s retail business management course aims to guide students in managing a creative business efficiently. This course content is based on high profile industry inputs from managers and business owners who have substantial experience in the sector.

Dato’ Mike Loh, Founder of SCCA, reiterated, “Over the course of the years, SCCA has evolved into a prominent college in Creative Arts. Complacency has no room in our business ethics and so, we have strived to position ourselves as a one-stop college for all things creative to hone our Malaysian budding talents.”

“Today, we are proud to unveil our new courses on Fashion Design, Film & Imaging production and Business Management. We believe that these industries have strong potentials and this is evident with the growth of the fashion world as well as the film industry,” added Dato’ Mike.

SCCA has evidently been progressing towards the government’s initiatives by continuously refreshing its creative arts offerings in a bid to develop it as a vital component of the nation’s economy. With the new additions, SCCA now offers courses in Italian Fashion Design, Talent Development (Performing Arts), Film Production, Business Management besides Beauty Technology along with several other short curriculums. The college is also open toward expansion into post-production and digitalization in the pipeline.

Datuk Aureen Jean Nonis, Senior Director & Strategic Planning Division of MATRADE, who attended the event as the guest of honour, applauded SCCA’s initiatives. “I, on behalf of MATRADE, am pleased to see SCCA expanding its curriculum. There is no doubt that the fashion and film industry are rising industries and with Malaysia’s robust talent pool, it will definitely benefit our country’s economy in further growing creative exports,” expressed Datuk Aureen.

During the event, the excitement in the premise was escalated with the:-

1) “ECO FUTURISTIC” Fashion Show, put together by the young talented students under the guidance of a fashion lecturer from Milan. The show featured an array of beautiful models in futuristic attires with upcycled materials.

2) “NOISE & URBAN GLAM” themed hair and makeup show where the students demonstrated their edgy skills.

3) And a specially constructed drama performance by the Performing Arts students.

The event ended wtih a business networking session. It was attended by various association presidents, brand owners, fashion designers as well as government authority bodies.

SCCA Grand Launch is organised by SCCA, with great support from StarMode Entertainment, Snips International Group, Instituto DiModa Burgo, and Beijing Film Academy.
