The majority of the data was downloaded over fixed line broadband, accounting for 92 per cent.
Other key insights include:
- 89 per cent of Australian adults are accessing the internet, with 100 per cent saturation in the 18-34 range
- Mobiles are the most popular device to access the internet and smart TVs are becoming mainstream.
- The number of internet subscriptions – both mobile and fixed – in Australia increased by 5.2 per cent on the previous year to 40.08 million at June 2017.
- Fixed-line telephones continue to decline with over 6.7 million Australians now mobile phone-only
- Almost 60 per cent of Australians watched online content in June 2017
- NBN activations were up 122 per cent to over 2.4 million in the 12 months to June 2017, and are now sitting at over three million as at December 2017
- Mobile services climbed three per cent to June 2017
- 4G mobile networks now cover 96 to 99 per cent of the Australian population.
