Langkawi’s PATA Event to help Malaysia hit 2020 tourism target

Malaysia, Langkawi, 29 July 2017, (NNN-Bernama) — The PATA Travel Mart 2018, to be held in Langkawi, will pave the way for Malaysia to achieve its 2020 target of 36 million tourist arrivals annually with a RM168-billion income from the tourism industry.

Tourism Malaysia director-general, Mirza Mohammad Taiyab said the event, which will be held from Sept 12 to 14 next year, will also see the launch of another campaign to boost tourist arrivals into the country in the next three years.

Speaking to reporters after a dinner for delegates of a PATA Malaysia and Singapore networking session here last night, he said the campaign would increase tourist arrivals here.

He said the last major tourism promotion campaign was held in 2014 during the Visit Malaysia Year, which he said was “the last high-level water mark” for tourist arrivals.

“In tourism, you have to hold major campaigns to give tourists a reason to re-look and come back here (to Malaysia),” he added.
