Date and Place of Birth: 24 September 1946, in Penang, Malaysia

Marital Status: Married with two daughters.

Education

Loreto Convent, Darjeeling, India; Pitmans Secretarial College, London.

Career

1965-1967 – held two secretarial positions in Bangkok.

1967-1970 – Executive Secretary, Tenneco (Thai) Oil Co;

1970-1981 – Executive Secretary to the GM, Tawana Sheraton;

1981 onwards – Managing Director, Convention Organisers Co., Ltd.

Joan Sarasin is widely regarded as one of the country’s top professional convention organisers. Her company was involved in organising 84 international conventions and exhibitions since its inception in 1982 until 2009, at an average of three to four a year.

For many years, Convention Organisers also served as the Secretariats for the PATA Thailand Chapter, the SKAL National Committee for Thailand and The SKAL International – Bangkok as well as the Secretariat for the Trade Exhibition Association (TEA) until January 2000. It was, and still remains, the official partner of Brahler in Thailand (simultaneous interpretation equipment).

Joan retired in 2009.
