ASEAN Travel & Tourism Hall of Fame – Initiated by Travel Impact Newswire Executive Editor Imtiaz Muqbil to recognise the many veterans who helped grow and shape ASEAN tourism over the last 50 years.

Education:

The Anglo-Chinese School, Singapore

Marital status: Married with 2 girls and 1 boy

Professional Career:

After school, he had various jobs from school teacher, clerk, customs. Prior to involvement in the travel industry, he served 10 years in the Armed Service as Commission Officer and reached the rank of Major prior to resignation in 1972.

Since August 1972, he joined the travel industry and worked for an inbound travel company in Singapore until February 1978. On 1st March 1978, he set up Orient Explorer (S) Pte Ltd.

He was one of the founder members of NATAS in March 1979 and held the post of Vice-President Inbound with the Association from 1980-1982.

He served as President of NATAS for four terms from 1984 to 1992.

Was actively involved in the various projects to improve the Singaporean inbound tourism industry, in conjunction with the Singapore Tourist Promotion Board.

Also served for several years on the the ASEANTA and FATA Boards.

Date of Passing: September 21, 2014

One of the most outspoken and energetic ASEANTA members, P.R.Gopal worked actively with what was then a close-knit group of colleagues such as Pakir Singh, Tunku Iskandar, Sri Budoyo, Roberto Jotikasathira, Sani Soemakno and Ermin Garcia to drive the ASEAN travel industry forward.
