Filipino airport taxi driver gets a kiss for his honesty

6 March 2016, (Manila Bulletin) – Officials of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) lauded the honesty of a taxi driver, who returned two trolley bags that were left in his cab by an arriving passenger from Kalibo, Aklan Saturday night.

Emilio Q. Balhin, driver of a Harurot taxi, returned two pink trolley bags that were left behind by a passenger he picked up at the NAIA Terminal 4 and who asked that she be brought to the Five Star Bus Terminal in Pasay City.

According to Airport police Lt. Nestor Alejandria, Balhin was hailed by arriving passenger Analiza Valdez at around 8:40 p.m.

Valdez had asked Balhin to bring her to the bus station which is only a few kilometers away from the airport.

But after Balhin dropped off Valdez at the bus station, he did not notice that the passenger’s two bags were left behind in the back seat. It took another passenger to inform him about the presence of the bags.

Asking the passenger’s permission, Balhim immediately brought the bags back to NAIA Terminal 4 and turned them over to airport policemen.

NAIA police was then able to trace Valdez based on the baggage tags which had her phone number.

Valdez immediately returned to NAIA to claim her bags and, upon finding Balhin still at the police office, rewarded him with a kiss for his honesty.
