Indian President to Visit Palestine for First Time October 12

RAMALLAH, October 7, 2015 (WAFA) – The President of India, Mr Pranab Mukherjee will pay the first ever State visit to Palestine in mid October at the invitation of president Mahmoud Abbas, President of State of Palestine, said a statement issued by the representative office of India to Palestine on Tuesday.

During the visit, which is expected to take place on October 12-13, 2015, the Indian President will hold meetings and interactions with Abbas, Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah, and the leaders of major political parties in Palestine.

He will also address al-Quds University and inaugurate Jawaharlal Nehru Secondary School at Abu Dees, east of Jerusalem, said the statement.

During the visit, India will augment its efforts to support the capacity building initiatives of Palestine.

The statement affirmed the strong friendly relations between the two countries, stating that, “Palestine and India share a cordial and friendly relationship.”

“India has been extending bilateral and multilateral support to Palestine in addition to developmental and budgetary support,” added the statement.

The statement expressed hope that this visit would further strengthen the bonds of friendship and renew the strong and unwavering commitment of India towards the Palestinian cause.

The Indian President will be accompanied by a high level delegation including Shri Thaawar Chand Gehlot, Union Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment; Members of Parliament; senior officials; senior representatives of our educational and academic institutions and media representatives.
