Israel Again Closes Gaza’s Lone Commercial Border Crossing

GAZA, July 1, 2015 (WAFA) – Israel closed on Wednesday Karm Abu Salem, also known as Kerem Shalom, the only commercial border crossing between Israel and Gaza located to the southeast of Rafah, preventing entry of aid, construction material and fuel into the besieged Gaza Strip.

Chairman of the Presidential Committee for the Coordination of Entry of Goods into Gaza Raed Fattouh said that they have been suddenly informed by Israeli occupation authorities about the decision to close the border crossing under the pretext of the security situation in the Sinai Peninsula.

Fattouh noted that they are not aware whether the commercial crossing would be closed for only one day or for several days.

The closure of Gaza’s lone commercial crossing means that humanitarian aid, goods, industrial fuel intended to run Gaza’s only power plant and construction materials intended for projects will not enter the Strip, having negative consequences on everyday life for Gaza’s people.
