Talent Hunt: A Rising Star Young Myanmar Hotelier

Nay Pyi Taw — When I arrived at the Excel Capital hotel on Jan 22, a young man helped me ensure a smooth check-in. Over the course of the week that I spent at the hotel, this same young man helped me discover what good service delivery really means.

He was on duty literally all the time, seated at a desk located to one side of the main lobby where he commanded a full view of what was going on. He was there when I checked in and when I checked out. On days when the daily transfer shuttle-bus was late, he was on the phone to the transport company.

Anything I wanted done, he arranged for it. I watched him help other guests with equivalent passion and enthusiasm. One guest got somewhat agitated with something. The young hotelier did not bat an eyelid, remained calm and sought to get the problem sorted out.

I asked him his name. He said just call me Mr. Bob. His name-card identified his full-name as Bo Bo Zin. He is 26 years old.

Never having experienced service such as this, I asked him to write up a small biodata. He did. The print-out of his own words has been photographed and reproduced below. He comes from a poor background and possesses a burning desire to become someone. Personally, I have no doubt he will fulfill his dreams.

Bo Bo Zin proves that delivering good service and hospitality has got nothing to do with working for brand-name hotel chains or acquiring fancy degrees from hotel schools. It’s just driven by basic self-motivation, ambition and the pursuit of higher ground.

U Bo Bo Zin can be contacted at the Excel Capital hotel, tel 067-8106011-7 or email excelcapitalnpt@gmail.com.
