New website launched to mark Malaysia’s Chairmanship of ASEAN 2015

PUTRAJAYA, Dec 23 (Bernama) — In conjunction with the assumption of Chairmanship of ASEAN 2015 by Malaysia from 1 January 2015, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has launched a dedicated website http://asean2015.gov.my to provide extensive coverage, information, updates and news on important events that will take place in 2015 during the Chairmanship.

This dedicated website is also designed to provide quick and easy access to essential information to assist ASEAN and other related member countries´ delegations, local and foreign media, and other related agencies to undertake online registration for accreditation and issuance of security passes. Visual information in video format and photo gallery will also be made available.

The website will also function as an outreach platform to promote more awareness about the organisation and its various benefits to the ASEAN Community, consistent with the overarching theme of Malaysia’s Chairmanship that is “People Centred ASEAN”.

Malaysia will officially take over the Chairmanship of ASEAN from 1st January 2015 even though the ceremonial handing-over of the Chairmanship from Myanmar to Malaysia had taken place on Thursday, 13th November 2014 during the 25th ASEAN Summit in Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar.

The Chairmanship of ASEAN 2015 will mark Malaysia’s leading role in the realization of the ASEAN Community and in developing the Community’s Post-2015 Vision. Malaysia also strive to steer ASEAN closer to the people of South East Asia by making it part of people’s daily lives and by creating a truly People-Centred ASEAN.
