November 7, 2014 – Effective immediately, people travelling from Mindanao and Palawan to countries in the East ASEAN Growth Area (EAGA) will no longer pay travel tax.

This was made possible by President Aquino who signed Memorandum Order No. 73 reinstating the travel tax exemption for air and sea travel to any destination within the Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines-East ASEAN Growth Area (BIMP-EAGA).

“The new travel tax exemption will cover passengers from anywhere in the Philippines bound for Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, and Malaysia, provided they depart from international ports and airports in Mindanao and Palawan,” MO 73 read.

The exemption order which was signed October 24 “takes effect immediately . . and granted for a period of three years.”
