Philippines President: Never allow mankind to suffer horrors of war | Manila Bulletin

President Aquino called on wartime allies and erstwhile foes to commit to peace and never allow mankind to suffer the same terrors and losses yesterday during the celebration of the 70th anniversary of the historic Leyte Gulf Landing in Palo.

“Beyond cataloguing the horrors of war, let us honor the peace that has reigned among our nations for close to 70 years. Let us renew our commitment to the strong and enduring friendships between the Philippines and its wartime allies, and perhaps most meaningfully, the countries that were once its foes,” the President said.

“We commit to peace as the true legacy of a conflict that should never be repeated, and look to a shared future bound by the trust we now extend towards each nation and nourished by the freedom we so cherish,” Aquino added at the event attended by the ambassadors of the United States, Australia, United Kingdom, and Japan.
