Philippines’ Population Expected To Hit 100 Million On July 27

KALIBO, the Philippines, July 22 (Bernama) — The Philippines’ population is expected to reach 100 million on July 27, Xinhua news agency reported.

The Philippine Population Commission (POPCOM) said Tuesday the 100th million Filipino is anticipated to be born that day in one of six provinces under the jurisdiction of the Western Visayas region and Iloilo City.

The region’s POPCOM will award seven starter kits worth 5,000 pesos (US$115) each if a baby is born at around 12:06 on July 27.

It has prepared at least one kit in each of the six provinces and the city of Iloilo.

To be eligible for the starter kits, a child must be born via natural birth or spontaneous delivery in a government accredited hospital and parents must be residents of the region’s provinces, among others.

A census conducted in 2010 showed the Philippines had a population of 92.3 million.

The National Statistical Coordination Board estimated the country’s population at 97.35 million last year.
