Israel imposes 3-day closure on West Bank

Occupied Jerusalem,May 4 (Petra)-Israeli occupation forces on Sunday imposed a general closure on the West Bank on the occasion of the so called Israel’s Independence Day. According to Israeli radio , the closure will start at 6 PM and will be lifted on Tuesday midnight. The announcement added that Palestinians will not be allowed to enter into Israel during the three-day closure.

Israeli Settlers Chop Down Roman-Era Olive Trees in Bethlehem Village

BETHLEHEM, May 3, 2014 – (WAFA) – Israeli settlers chopped down Saturday scores of Roman-era olive trees near Nahalin located to the west of Bethlehem, a local official said.

A group of settlers from the nearby illegal Israeli settlement of Beit ‘Ayn raided al-Jamjoum area, located to the west of Nahalin, and chopped down 50 olive trees, including Roman-era olive trees, using a chainsaw, according to Head of Nahalin Local Council Ibrahim Shakarneh.

Shakarneh added that settlers have recently intensified their attacks against the lands of Nahalin; they have persisted in their attempts to level the Palestinian villagers lands, pumper wastewater into them and uproot and chop down villagers’ trees. Settlers’ attempts are aimed at preventing farmers from accessing their lands in order to seize them for settlement construction.

Israeli Settlers Uproot Scores of Olive Saplings near Bethlehem

BETHLEHEM, May 1, 2014 – (WAFA) – Israeli settlers uprooted Thursday scores of olive saplings from Palestinian-owned land near Wadi Rahhal village to the south of Bethlehem, said a local activist.

Settlers uprooted 50 olive saplings in an area known as Khalit al-Nahli near the village of Wadi Rahhal, said Coordinator of the Anti-wall and Settlement Popular Committee in Bethlehem District Hassan Breijah.

He noted that settlers had broke into and razed the land, built a room using tin sheets and wood, and prevented Palestinian farmers from accessing it. An Israeli court had ruled in favor of Palestinian landowners against Israeli settlers’ attempts to take it over.

Israeli Forces Closed Down Islamic Soccer Club in Qalqilya

QALQILYA, April 30, 2014 – (WAFA) – Israeli forces closed down Wednesday morning the Islamic soccer club in Qalqilya, a local source said.

Member of the Islamic club information committee Mahmoud Qashmar said that Israeli forces stormed the club and secured it with red tape until the end of this year. He noted that they could not enter the club to find out items seized by the forces.

The club, which is considered the most prominent club in Palestine, had been closed down by Israeli forces back in 2008 for three years before it went back into operation in 2011.

Several of the club soccer players had been arrested by Israeli forces, the last one was arrested on  a border crossing with Jordan while he was on his way back from a Doha soccer league.
