Thai Airways slashes outbound fares, as price-led recovery strategy sets in across “Travel Trinity”

Bangkok – Thai Airways International (THAI) is offering special “EARLY BIRD” promotion for customers to take advantage of roundtrip international fares on THAI and THAI Smile flights in Economy Class.

The move indicates the start of a price-led strategy to get the outbound market moving following the winding down of the “Bangkok Shutdown” political protest. It also completes the “Travel Trinity” of inbound, domestic and outbound sectors, all of which are now embarked upon a huge bonanza of price-cuts to get business moving again in time for the upcoming low season (for inbound) and high season (for domestic and outbound).

Outbound travel from Thailand has slowed in the last few years. Figures just from Bangkok Suvarnabhumi airport alone show that the number of outbound trips by Thai citizens have risen only marginally from 2.99 million in 2011 to 3.19 million in 2013. Interestingly, the number of outbound trips went up during the political unrest period, from 207,076 in January to 224,309 in February.

Both legacy and low-cost airlines are slashing fares across inbound, domestic and outbound sectors to get business moving again. Thai Airways is now the latest to join the bandwagon.

Mr. Wiwat Piyawiroj, THAI Vice President, Sales & Distribution, Thailand and Indochina, said THAI is offering the “EARLY BIRD” special international roundtrip air fares in Economy Class on THAI and THAI Smile flights. Passengers can make reservations and issue tickets during 12 – 20 March 2014 and may begin travel during 13 May – 30 September 2014. Details are as follows:
