SME Hotel Investment Seminar In Myanmar, 22-23 March


Yangon, 4 February 2014 (Thai Hotel and Hospitality Management Association media release) – In 2013, the number of tourists visiting Myanmar surged over 2.0 million compared to 1.0 million in 2012 indicating a significant double increase from last year. Ministry of Hotel and Tourism of Myanmar forecasted that in 2014 the number of international tourists will increase 3.0 million. Currently, there are 782 hotels and guesthouses offering 28,000 rooms for the visitors. With the booming tourists, foreign investment of new hotels had rushed in and there will be an additional of 36 new hotel projects offering near to 8,000 rooms in the next 2 years. Singapore investors topped the list of foreign investor with the investment of US$597 million or 42.6 % of the total investment of US$ 1.4 billion.

Mr. Kamol Ratanavirakul, President of Thai Hotel and Hospitality Management Association (THMA) said while the political situation looks gloomy and unstable, SME hotel investors should look for alternative business opportunity and investment elsewhere in neighboring countries. Myanmar is offering a golden opportunity for Thai investors for hotel and resort investment. To provide knowledge for local SME investor, THMA will organize an investment seminar on “Opportunity For Hotel Investment In Myanmar” on Saturday 22nd March, 2014 at Park Royal Hotel, Yangon, Myanmar. The guest speakers will be invited from Ministry of Hotel and Tourism, Myanmar as well as Myanmar Investment Commission to provide first hand knowledge and information for potential investors.

Registration fee for the investment seminar will be Baht 15,000.00 per company including lunch, coffee break and an official dinner reception.

Concurrent with the investment seminar, THMA will also organize a special business matching program for hotel and restaurant suppliers in the SME hotel cluster to meet with hotel and restaurant owners and executives in Myanmar. Number of hotel suppliers participants are limited to only 25 companies with registration fee for Baht 20,000 per company, inclusive of table top display, advance business appointment, whole day coffee break, lunch, official opening ceremony and reception dinner for participants, invited senior government officials as well as local media in Myanmar. Both events are supported by Department of International Trade Promotion, Ministry of Commerce.

Mr. Kamol also disclosed that there are already 20 companies participating in the events featuring a wide varieties of products from carpet, bedding, linen, wood and steel furniture, freezers, telecommunication, coffee machine suppliers, hotel amenities and spa products, marketing consultant company, and several hotels.
