‘Brazil Uncovered:’ CCTV America launches weeklong special on Brazil

WASHINGTON, Sept. 21, 2013 /PRNewswire/ — CCTV America, the US production arm of CCTV News, the global English Channel of China Central Television, from Monday, September 23rdwill feature a week of special, in depth, programming on Brazil, South America’s largest nation. China is its largest trading partner.

In this special series, a team of CCTV reporters focuses on Brazil’s struggle to find a balance between its position as a rising, global, economic super power, and its need to preserve its extraordinary natural resources.

Correspondent Sean Callebs takes viewers on a 20 day journey along the Amazon and through the Brazilian rainforests. He profiles the Kayopo Indians who are resisting development and the construction of a large dam project along the Xingu River.

As reporter Callebs notes:  “Brazil and its rainforests are a story everyone should care about: the rainforest provides 20% of the world’s oxygen and 20% of its fresh water.”

Correspondent Stephen Gibbs in Rio de Janeiro, focuses on the economic policy and the politics of this nation of nearly 200 million people. He profiles Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff. Rousseff, engaged in struggle to tackle uneven economic growth and manage a rash of street protests, recently cancelled a state visit to Washington in a row over allegations of US espionage.

Additional reporting by Correspondents Franc Contreras and Paulo Cabral provides viewers a comprehensive examination of Brazil’s agricultural and manufacturing industries. The series also explores Brazil’s place in World Sport and its preparations for the 2014 FIFA World Cup and the 2016 Olympic Games.
