Indian Minister Interacts With People Nationwide Via Google Hangout on Road Safety issues


Ministry of Road Transport & Highways, 29-March, 2013 — Dr. CP Joshi, the Minister for Road Transport & Highways interacted with people to discuss road safety issues here this evening via Google Hangout. People from all over the country such as Bangalore, New Delhi, Hyderabad, Gandhinagar, Roorkee, Andhra Pradesh, Gurgaon, Udaipur, Chennai and Bilaspur, Chattisgarh asked Minister to answer questions on various aspects of road safety.

Concluding the dialogue, Dr. Joshi said that time has come to involve people in policy making and to make democracy actively participative. He also said that Ministry will continue to use ICT for interaction with people.

Those who interacted with the minister wanted to know about creation of proper data base like Australia, US and Europe to identify the exact cause of accident is the first step towards improving safety, issuance of a centralized prepaid toll card which to help reduce the toll passage time, collection effort, hassle to manage change, commuters fuel and corruption, linking all the vehicles and their drivers on one system so that when driver visits different states the hassle of proving his identity is not there, use an Automated Accident Detection System determining accident prone zones to avoid fake calls and making emergency call to rescue team/ambulance to reach the site immediately and help rescue the victims, use of florescent RED or Yellow color strip or triangle on all four sides of vehicles and to have light reflector/ indicator or strips, yearly Traffic Studies carried out and shared with educational institutions for efficient analysis to improve safety, geometric standards, prescribing a software developed to record and analyse Road Traffic Accidents data in a very exhaustive manner, trained first responders to medical emergency, creation of more Trauma care Centers way side amenities and rest rooms, installation of Speed Governor on all the vehicles and making process of issuing Driving Licence very strict.
