Asia Times Online: Did Australia sell out ‘Prisoner X?’

Senior Israeli defense correspondents say an Australian-born Israeli Mossad operative who killed himself in Israeli custody two years ago was neither a traitor nor a daredevil spy but someone who endangered Mossad operations seriously by talking too much.

Known only as Prisoner X since 2010, following two years of strictly enforced Israeli censorship, the agent was this month named by the Australian media as Ben Zygier, reawakening the controversy over his death..

ABC said that Zygier had met members of the Australian Security Intelligence Organization (ASIO) – Australia’s secret service – during four trips home, and that he disclosed comprehensive details about his missions within the Mossad.
