Gallup Poll Shows Mixed Public Image of U.S. Travel, Airline Industry Sectors

Princeton, NJ, 16 Aug 2012 – The U.S. travel industry enjoys a largely positive image among the U.S. public but has suffered a small decline in its image ratings between 2011 and 2012. On the other hand, the U.S. airline industry is more negatively than positively perceived but has made a slight gain in its image ratings in the same period.

According to the results of a Gallup poll on 25 business and industry sectors published on August 16, the airline industry has a 35% negative rating amongst the U.S. public and a 31% positive rating. The rest are neutral.

The airline industry has the fifth lowest image rating of all business and economic sectors, with only the oil & gas industry, the federal government, the banking and real estate sectors faring worse. The advertising and public relations sector is also more negatively than positively rated.

However, the travel industry has a 40% positive rating and a 21% negative rating. It has a suffered a small 2%-point fall in ratings between 2011-12, according to the survey.
