19 Aug Deadline for Unique Award Recognising Innovative Disabled-Friendly Practises

Bangkok – Airports, convention centres, hotels, museums and other travel & tourism-related organisations in the Asia-Pacific region which have delivered innovative products and services to cater to people with disabilities (PwDs) are invited to apply for the ESCAP-Sasakawa Disability-Inclusive Business Award.

Designed to support the Asian and Pacific Decade of Persons with Disabilities, 2013–2022, the ESCAP-Sasakawa Award will:

(+) Publicly recognize and reward businesses that demonstrate good practices in responding to the needs of persons with disabilities in their business operations;

(+) Raise awareness regarding the opportunities available to the private sector for inclusion of persons with disabilities in businesses;

(+) Catalyse Asia-Pacific leadership in disability-inclusive business.

It is open for nominations until 19 August. The award is open to entrepreneurs, national enterprises and multinational enterprises based and operating in any of the 58 countries and territories of the ESCAP region.

The ESCAP-Sasakawa Award was developed in partnership by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), The Nippon Foundation (TNF), and the Asia-Pacific Development Center on Disability (APCD).

The winners will be announced by mid-November 2013, and the award presentation ceremony will be held on 3 December 2013.
