The Handset Holiday – Just 30 Minutes to Book a Break on the Mobile

LEEDS, England–(BUSINESS WIRE)-July 11, 2014 -It used to be something we spent weeks planning, now speedy Brits take less than 30 minutes to book their ‘Handset Holidays’.

This summer a tech-savvy one in seven of us will make all our travel plans on the move – using a mobile phone to browse, choose and pay for flights.

And for young people especially, booking via phone is ‘the norm’. Almost a third (28 per cent) of 18-24-year-olds reveal they always use their smartphone to shop for flights (http://www.bravofly.co.uk/vg1/flights.do) while two per cent of those aged 55 and over are giving it a try too.

According to a new One Poll survey commissioned by online travel retailer, Bravofly (http://www.bravofly.co.uk), the majority of us (53 per cent) spend less than 30 minutes making a booking and one in ten (nine per cent) whizzes through the process in just ten minutes.

And the days of the traditional travel agent certainly seem numbered, with three quarters of us (77 per cent) opting to buy our flights via the internet.

Cost then convenience seems to be motivating the migration to online with another three quarters (77 per cent) saying our priority is accessing the best prices.

Almost two thirds (63 per cent) favour the 24-hour nature of internet booking, 53 per cent want access to comparison sites and 51 per cent say it’s quicker than using an agent.

More and more Brits are sneaking on travel sites to make bookings during work time too.

Almost a third (30 per cent) of those quizzed admitted using their office computer to shop for flights, and 16 per cent made reservations during their nine to five – compared to just ten per cent who wait until their lunch break.

And the days of loyalty to a specific airline are well and truly over.

Almost half – 47 per cent – of us say we are motivated by cost when choosing flights, compared to just 14 per cent who stick with a carrier they trust.

Another 34 per cent say they opted for tickets based on airport location and for four per cent, being able to book separate outbound and return flights was a priority.

Young people are the most cost-aware with those aged 18-24 choosing flights purely on price – compared to 75 per cent of 55+ year olds.

The way we make bookings might have changed but our passion for travel is stronger than ever.

According to the One Poll report, commissioned by Bravofly, 69 per cent of Brits take five flights a year, with a lucky seven per cent booking up to 25.

As a result, more than a quarter of us has an annual flights budget of £1k, while almost a third (32 per cent) spend £300 and another third splashes out £600. A well-travelled four per cent spends more than £2,000.

The findings are good news for Bravofly, who are growing in the British market with a UK version of their online travel agency.

According to their research, it’s older people travelling the most. An overwhelming 81 per cent of all the 55+ travellers quizzed said they book five flights a year, more than any other age group.

Speaking about the findings, a Bravofly spokesman says: “We know that the way we choose and book flights is changing all the time – and the development of mobile-enabled travel services is making a huge impact on consumer habits.

“What these results demonstrate very clearly is that cost, speed and convenience are everything to modern travellers – whether they’re flying for personal or professional reasons.

“As an online travel company we work hard to respond to these needs and to offer the kind of choice and efficient service customers need.”

Bravofly is a flight search platform which allows customers to compare and book with traditional and low cost airlines in just a few clicks.

Following its formation in 2006, as one of the first websites of the Bravofly Rumbo Group, it now provides a wide range of products and tourist services, including hotels and car hire.

Bravofly is available in 14 languages.
