‘Just One Inch of Water’ Exhibition To Go on Show at UN HQ, 9-29 July

United Nations, (UN News Centre) 05 July 2018 – An opening reception for an exhibition entitled “Just One Inch of Water” will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, 9 July 2018, in the Visitors’ Lobby.  The exhibition is organized on behalf of the United Nations Group of Friends on Drowning Prevention by the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI).

During the reception, remarks will be made by Vitavas Srivihok, Permanent Representative of Thailand to the United Nations, and Tareq Md Ariful Islam, Deputy Permanent Representative of Bangladesh to the United Nations.

Drowning claims 360,000 lives a year across the world.  This photo exhibition features images depicting the inherent dangers of lives and livelihoods intrinsically connected to the water — and how that challenges the delivery of the Sustainable Development Goals — in Thailand, Bangladesh and Fiji, three countries with some of the highest drowning rates in the world, particularly amongst children under the age of 5.

The exhibition showcases the work of three internationally acclaimed photographers – Poulomi Basu, GMB Akash and World Press Photo Award winner Zackary Canepari.  The “Just One Inch of Water” exhibition will be on display until 29 July 2018.
