Kyoto taxis specializing in foreign tourists begin one-year trial | The Japan Times

KYOTO, Mar 1, 2016  Kyodo– A one-year trial run for taxis aimed at non-Japanese tourists started Tuesday in the city of Kyoto, the first such service in Japan aimed at enhancing the experience for overseas visitors. The “foreigner-friendly taxis” accept credit cards, have space for two large suitcases and drivers who are able to communicate in a variety of languages such as English and Chinese, project officials said. The trial is being jointly organized by the city, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism and other bodies.
